The Oxford University philosopher Nick Bostrom brought up the singleton hypothesis, which states that the intelligent life on Earth will at some point organize itself into a so-called "singleton", i.e. one organization, AI or entity, which would control all affairs. If you have read my story, you know that this process does not need to stop at the level of our Earth. Why not think further and extend the singleton hypothesis to the whole Universe? ;-)
